Foundation Looking To Expand Programs

The Fairbury Community Foundation has been a driving force behind several projects in Fairbury and the surrounding area, both big and small, and organizers say they can really add up.
Don Cook, President of the Fairbury Community Foundation, explained that the group is constantly working on a new project to better Fairbury and the greater Jefferson County region.
Some of the projects the FCF have been involved in include: a backpack program that has provided over $6,500 of backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Fairbury Public Schools over the last two years, paid for 48 thermometers to give to families to help subdside flu issues at the school, funded activities for the Saturday portion of the Fairbury 150th Birthday celebration, including the street dance and beer garden (an activity the group is planning on again pursuing); refurbished the Santa Hut and brought it back to downtown Fairbury, donated to organizations ranging from Miss Jefferson County and Miss Jefferson County Little Sisters to the K9 unit for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
FCF has recently teamed with Whispering Acres to procure a $17,000 grant to provide horse therapy, including financial help for juveniles.
Like many organizations that give their time and money, Cook explained that funds are always appreciated and welcomes by the FCF. Being a 501-C3, the group would like to expand many projects already being done by the FCF and would like to add more, including an after-school activities program and a job/life-skills program.
“Grants are always being pursued, but sometimes matching funds are needed and just the day-to-day costs of providing some of these programs can add up,” Cook said. “If anyone wants to see these programs expand, just give us a call and we’ll work with everyone on making it happen.”
